From clarifying initial questions to long-term projects.
We advise companies on sustainable, long-lasting and credible projects and plans within the framework of nature-based solutions as a group of measures in the engagement against climate change.
This primarily involves measures for sustainable soil management in agriculture and the planting of trees as carbon removals. Together with you, we find solutions within the supply chain (insetting) and outside.
Whether for large individual projects, thousands of smallholders or individual farms, we provide professional support with basic introductions, quick checks, feasibility studies, training and project development.
Our services:
3a. Project development under carbon offsetting standards.
3b. NbS implementation and monitoring in insetting projects.
3c. Monitoring, MRV, and sampling design
We are happy to answer your initial questions about possible project ideas for nature-based solutions, the voluntary carbon market and your options for a feasible project. We usually present basic concepts, opportunities and potential risks in a visual online presentation. This helps you get to grips with the topic and find your bearings.
We explain the most important aspects of nature-based solutions (also: natural climate solutions) in a compact and understandable way. This also applies for questions of eligibility and problems of double counting. We are happy to discuss existing project ideas. In addition to measures for soil carbon/humus build-up, agroforestry and afforestation, we are also gladly talk to you about biochar, peatland rewetting and so-called blue carbon (mangroves, seagrass, salt marshes).
In this section, information on initial project ideas is checked for potential and possible obstacles. If this brief check is positive, we can carry out a feasibility study if interested, detailing the CO2 potential (especially removals and sequestration), costs and risks of a long-term project.
These steps are often very important, as a later long-term NbS project (insetting, carbon offsetting standard or carbon farming) is associated with costs, risks and other aspects that should be assessed in advance. Here we can also recommend on how to mitigate these risks.
We offer project development support for various” carbon offsetting standards” in order to generate sustainable climate protection projects with proven CO2 storage. This includes the Gold Standard and others, such as Plan Vivo, Regen Network and VCS. We have experience of both large-scale and smallholder projects. The focus is on soil management, agricultural and reforestation projects and combinations.
We guide you through project development and monitoring (MRV) and also assist you with external certification. The result is certified, tradable carbon credits that can be used, for example, to neutralize unavoidable emissions as part of a climate strategy. In future, they can also be used for so-called contribution claims, i.e. proven climate protection measures in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, which are not used for a corporate carbon footprint, but can serve as proof of meaningful climate projects.
We closely work with other Sustainable AG services to support you in your insetting planning and GHG mitigation. For the concrete reduction of emissions and CO2 sequestration/removals in your supply chain, we guide you through the practical implementation of measures, including measurements and monitoring (MRV). With our national and international field experience, we also provide farmers and technical staff with optimal support on site - for smallholders and large farms.
We provide insetting support in line with the relevant guidelines, the SBTi-FLAG and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol - LSRG (Land Sector and Removals Guidance). In addition to the processes, this also includes step-by-step instructions and training (e.g. for soil sampling or tree measurement), which can be carried out on site or remotely. We conduct our training courses in a pragmatic, practical manner and adapted to the intercultural context. We have experience with projects in Germany, Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America.
We support you in planning the monitoring, MRV and sampling strategies. Our experience has also been included in FAO publications (GSOC MRV Protocol). We advise you on which indicators can be collected in which time span, what the costs are, and how many samples of which type need to be taken. We offer easy-to-understand materials and training (also on-site) for both soil samples and tree measurements. We also take modern methods into account, e.g. monitoring using remote sensing or NIR spectrographic methods.
We offer this service for carbon offsetting project development as well as for insetting and other carbon farming projects. There are different regulations for each option, which we are happy to present to you in a clear manner. One of the most important points is a long-term monitoring design so that the results remain comparable over time. We would be happy to show you the practical implementation of this and other aspects!
Here you will find photos taken on site of some of our projects that have been carried out over the last few years. These relate to all the services we have presented on this page.
