DAX 50 ESG: Deutsche Börse presents new sustainability index

The new DAX 50 ESG index lists companies that have to meet certain environmental, social and governance criteria. Since March, the DAX 50 ESG has been designed to satisfy the growing demand for sustainable investment opportunities in Germany.

The sustainable index includes 50 companies from the DAX, MDAX and TecDAX, which are evaluated on the basis of various criteria (market capitalization, stock exchange turnover & sustainability rating). Following this review, 23 of the 30 companies represented in the DAX are now also included in the DAX 50 ESG, including some customers of sustainable AG (Carl Zeiss AG, Hugo Boss AG, KION Group AG, Knorr-Bremse AG, Linde PLC, OSRAM LICHT AG, QIAGEN NV).

Although critics criticise that the sustainability index is not sufficient, the stock exchange emphasises that the index should consciously reflect the breadth of the market. The aim is to list companies that have not yet established an all-encompassing climate management within the company, but have already taken first steps towards sustainable management.

Accordingly, the introduction of further sustainability indices with stricter admission criteria is planned for this year.
