sustainable commits itself with a 2°C climate target to the Science Based Targets Initiative

On August 10th, 2018, sustainable committed itself with a 2°C climate target to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) by submitting a letter of commitment. Within the next weeks we will submit our proposal for an ambitious climate target to the SBTi in order to have the climate target officially approved.
With this we aim to contribute to mitigating anthropogenic climate change so that global temperatures can be kept well below 2°C.

Over the last two years, sustainable has been advising companies on the development and implementation of 2°C-compatible climate targets in accordance with the Science Based Targets Initiative. In cooperation with the German UN Global Compact Network (DGCN), a discussion paper on science-based climate targets as the basis for a corporate 2°C climate strategy was published in December 2017. The paper serves as a concise introduction to the formulation of 2°C climate targets and includes practical recommendations on how to select and apply methods as well as a description of the criteria to be met for official recognition of the target by the Science Based Targets Initiative.

About the Science Based Target Initiative

The Science Based Targets Initiative empowers companies to set science-based targets thereby increasing competitive advantage in the transition to a low-carbon economy. The initiative represents a partnership between the CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The targets of companies, organizations and communities are independently assessed and approved. All participating companies are listed on the website of the Science Based Targets Initiative as well as of CDP and We Mean Business.
